Cancellation Update:

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope you all had a festive Christmas and an enjoyable new year’s despite all the disruptions that the virus has caused. From the perspective of mid last year, I think we are not alone in being somewhat surprised and disappointed that the new year did not bring along with it any loosening of travel restrictions in Europe. This has in turn put us in a tricky spot in relation to our wedding celebrations that we were hoping would take place in August this year. Due to the persistent levels of uncertainty that hinder all planning nowadays (but especially any including travel), we have made the decision to cancel our Wedding Celebration (so not a postponement unfortunately). We can generally be thankful that the pandemic has not had any large negative effect on us as it has on many others but giving up the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with friends and family is nevertheless a great disappointment for us. We apologise for the multiple changes of plans over the past couple of years and sincerely hope we have not caused any loss of money or inconvenience for anyone. Regardless of these changes in plans, hopefully we get the opportunity to see each one of you over the next years.

Stay healthy!

Nick and Tamara

Tamara and Nick's story must surely begin when they met for the first time in Vancouver in 2012. The occasion, however, appears to be so unmomentous that the pair cannot agree on where or when exactly it happened. There is no skipped heartbeat here or lingering eye contact there to help mark out the beginning but rather conflicting memories and lost conversations. What we can be sure of though is that they did indeed meet and a relationship started. A relationship that, despite its unmemorable origin, developed into something so unique, robust and special that it managed to cross the globe without missing a beat. Tamara and Nick both hope that you can join them celebrate this relationship in Berchtesgaden Germany and make the start of the next phase of their relationship much more memorable.

More Information about the Evening

We have decided to make this evening more of a party than a traditional wedding, meaning that there won't be a ceremony but rather a couple of short speeches and dinner.
Dress code: We recommend smart casual but the most important thing for us is that you are there so feel free to come as you wish.
Gifts: As we are aware that all of you will be travelling and spending money on transport and accommodation, we ask you to not give us any gifts.
Transport: As noted in the agenda, we are organising to have the gondola (called Obersalzbergbahn) operate from the base station to the middle station which is a 2 minute walk away from the venue for anyone who is interested. For the way home we are trying to negotiate a deal with a local taxi company. We will provide more details closer to the date. For those with an adventurous spirit, it is possible to walk down within 20 minutes.

Things to do

Berchtesgaden is located in the Bavarian alps with a beautiful mountainous surrounding and close to the Austrian border. Besides plenty of outdoor and hiking activities, these sights might be worth while:

Berchtesgaden
  • Hitler's Eagles Nest
  • The 'Dokumentation Obersalzberg' Museum (Chronicles the Nazi era)
  • Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden (Salt Mine)
Salzburg (45 min by bus from Berchtesgaden)
  • Salzburg Cathedral + a wander through the old town
  • Hohensalzburg Fortress
  • Mozart's Birthplace
  • Mirabell palace and gardens
Königssee (10 min by bus from Berchtesgaden)
  • Bayerische Seenschifffahrt (Boat trip)
  • Hike the Malerwinkel Rundweg
  • Jennerbahn (cable car)

Plan your trip

First off, we recommend planning and booking as soon as possible as Berchtesgaden is a popular destination in the summer and since the 12th of August is considered part of the high season, it will be relatively busy.
Getting There: The closest airport to fly into is Salzburg Airport. From there one can take a bus into Salzburg city and then another bus to Berchtesgaden. Another possibility is to fly into Munich Airport but one must still go via Salzburg to get to Berchtesgaden using public transport. Of course renting a car and driving is another option.
Accommodation: There are plenty of hotels and airbnbs in the town of Berchtesgaden but we have noticed that they have started getting booked out so we recommend booking soon.
Length of Stay: We will be staying in Berchtesgaden until Sunday the 6th of September and will be happy to spend time with anyone who is there for that period as well.
